How it was worked out
- The rate for the class. In economy class the full travel tax is ₱1,620.00, the standard reduced rate ₱810.00 and the privileged reduced rate ₱300.00. (TIEZA travel tax rates (full, standard reduced and privileged reduced))
- Each traveller. 2 × ₱1,620 = ₱3,240.00; 1 × ₱810 = ₱810.00; 0 × ₱300 = ₱0.00; 0 exempt pay nothing. (Presidential Decree No. 1183, as amended, the travel tax law)
- Total. ₱3,240.00 + ₱810.00 + ₱0.00 = ₱4,050.00.
- Many international tickets already include the travel tax. Check the ticket's tax breakdown before paying again at the airport.
- The privileged reduced rate is for the legitimate spouse and unmarried children of an OFW travelling to join the OFW, with proof of the relationship. The child's reduced rate needs a birth certificate or passport.
- Exempt travellers, such as OFWs with an overseas employment certificate and infants under 2, still get a TIEZA exemption certificate or have it noted at the counter. Check the full list and the documents with TIEZA.
