How it was worked out

  1. Basic pay. ₱755.00 × 13 days = ₱9,815.00. (DOLE and the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards, minimum wage orders)
  2. Commission and incentive. 10% of ₱40,000.00 = ₱4,000.00. Plus 50 services × ₱20.00 = ₱1,000.00.
  3. Service charge share. The whole pool goes to the covered employees in equal shares: ₱24,000.00 ÷ 8 = ₱3,000.00. (Republic Act No. 11360, the Service Charge Law, and its implementing rules)
  4. Total. ₱9,815.00 + ₱4,000.00 + ₱1,000.00 + ₱3,000.00 tips + ₱3,000.00 = ₱20,815.00.
  • Commission and per-service incentives follow the spa's own policy or contract; the law does not set them.
  • The daily rate must not be below the regional minimum wage. Check the current wage order for your region with DOLE.
  • Taxes, SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG are not deducted here.

Questions

Asked and answered.

How is the service charge shared in a spa in the Philippines?

Under RA 11360 all of the service charge collected goes to the covered employees, shared equally. Managerial employees are not covered.

Are tips part of the service charge?

No. A tip given to a therapist is the therapist's own. The service charge is a separate amount the spa collects and must pass on in full.

What is a typical spa therapist commission?

It depends on the spa's own policy. Some pay a percentage of each service sold, some a fixed amount per service, and some both on top of a daily rate.

Can a spa pay commission only, with no daily rate?

An employee's total pay must still meet the minimum wage for the region. Check the arrangement with DOLE before paying commission only.
